I attended the Renaissance Festival again because on my first day of coming to RenFest, I was unable to do anything because of the attention-attraction that my sisters and I were getting for our costumes and the reapers' scythes. This time, all three of us came back as observers, and we brought friends!
Beware: A rant is included in this part of my Living History Journal.

11/17/12: So this was how the day went...
My sisters and I drove to Kenneth's house and helped him get his costume on. We went to University Park to pick up Yahaira then we all went to McDonald's to eat breakfast before coming to RenFest.

The first thing we did when we came to RenFest was getting those RenFest program books to see which shows we would want to watch.
Next, I saw some cute and adorable children dressed up as pirates along with their pirate-parents. -squeals- They were so adorable that I had to take a picture of the family! The kids even said "Byee!!" in such an adorable tone...
Anyways, we went to a Scot Shoppe to look for possible accessories that Kenneth might want to get, then we all stopped by Renboots just to look at the stuff at the suggestion from the people in Scot Shoppe since it was all owned by "Dealy Express, Inc." (Yes, "Dealy" with one "L")
This is when the ugly happened.

We were all looking at the fake guns that they had on these hanging racks and when one of my sisters placed the gun she was looking back onto the rack, another gun dropped to the ground. The female-employee who watched us immediately said "Oh, you practically just bought that." Right after that, the old manager or owner of the store stormed up to us and started screaming at us saying, "THIS IS WHY THERE'S A SIGN THAT SAYS 'DON'T HANDLE THE GUNS.' YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TOUCH THE GUNS." All of us replied in an apologetic manner saying "Oh we're sorry, but we didn't really see a sign that said that..." then the man rushed over to the rack of guns and pointed at a small piece of paper (that is smaller than the size of an ID card) that had super-thin and unreadable Old-English fonts. He pointed at each word and screamed, "RIGHT HERE. DO. NOT. HANDLE. GUNS." The lady who was watching us said "Now what?" then the man replied "Now what? THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT GUN. THEY BROKE IT. IT'S THE APPROPRIATE THING FOR THEM TO DO." The lady then told me to "just go the front so they can bring it up" then the old man left in rage...
Note: I have something similar to a diary or a journal, so I took all of these words out of the entry that I wrote on the night I came home from this day.
So my thinking is... all five of us were standing right where it happened. None of us bolted for the open exits that were available on both sides of the store. Was it really necessary for that man to give us that crap? Us staying in the store should mean that one of us were willing to pay for the gun that dropped. However, did I really have to pay for that gun after being treated like that? Did I have to pay for that gun when his employee watched us handle the guns without telling us anything?
Back to the happy stuff!
Since we were right at the Odeon stage, we stopped by to watch Arsene's magic show!

His show was very humorous considering the fact that the kids who came up as volunteers for his act weren't doing things just right... the last one finally made the show even funnier by playing along with Arsene and by surprising him with his personality.
We continued walking around and I saw this eye-attracting man wearing a black-armor outfit with a little figure at his legs... he has a SON! And his son was wearing the exact same thing he was wearing and they both had the same haircut! It was such a happy, adorable and lovable sight!

We proceeded to watch the "School of Swords," the Jousting competition, Adam Crack's Fire Whip Show, and the Ded Bob Show. We also listened and watched Tartanic and Wine & Alchemy. I also had the pleasure of watching and recording Angela, Elizabeth, Kenneth and Yahaira participating in activities like elephant-riding, archery and dancing in "Dance School."
In the end, I did my part of being the girl with the camera and we all had a pretty decent day! All of our feet were sore from walking back and forth around the festival grounds to watch the shows, so when we were walking out to our car, we paid to have chariot ride by a gentleman who pulled all five of us out to our car.
Note to self: Do not wear flat, thin shoes like jazz shoes, converse and vans to places like the Renaissance Festival... that's almost like suicide with all that walking on the uneven grounds...

The differences between going to RenFest as an observer and going as a participant:
1) The obvious difference that I felt while going to RenFest as a participant without a costume was that people didn't stare at us... much (there were some since there were four girls walking around with a Scottish-Asian guy).
2) People who saw us as Jesters and Reapers actually moved aside for us to walk. We didn't have to force our way to go anywhere. When people turned around and saw us walking behind them, they rush aside to get out of our path.
3) We were very limited in doing anything or watching anything while wearing our costumes because our masks and our props limited our "physical abilities."
4) For me as an Undead Jester, I was not able to take many pictures with my camera because I thought a Jester holding a camera to actually take pictures would ruin the scary image that a creepy undead freak was supposed to have.
5) I noticed that as a participant that has done a "good job" at playing her role as a specific character during my previous RenFest visit, I began to look at other people who were dressed up in costumes. I commended every single person who played their parts instead of thinking, "What the heck is with that person?" The first person I saw that I really, really liked about how she played her role was a person who was acting like a drunk peasant lady. She kept laughing and approaching people like a crazy drunk woman. She DEFINITELY played her part. I even got to see her in her "normal phase" and she was talking like any normal person! "Amazing..." I said. Another example is a person who was dressed up as No-Name from the movie "Spirited Away." He did not talk AT ALL and he just moved around smoothly and "flowy-ly" just like the actual character on the movie. He even had gold coins to hold out to people (and children) to play his part! Just AWESOME.
However, there were people who did not play their parts at all. My jester outfit is one of those "You can find them in any Halloween-costume store" type of outfit, so I made my commitment to play my role to stand out compared to the other people who would wear the outfits of the same series. When I went to RenFest as a participant, I saw a person (someone in the later teenage years) wear the white version of my Undead Jester costume with a normal attitude. Its back was completely straight. It was playing around with its friends. It was... WEIRD.
Then I asked, "Why the hell are they wearing that costume at all?"

12/6/12: The day of the second set of presentations in Mrs. Q's class
Angela wanted to teach the "Highland Welcome" Scottish dance from RenFest's "Dance School" to our class for the LHJ presentation. However, the class got ready to move the tables, we realized that the tables are chained to each other and the floor. It was then decided by Mrs. Q and the students that the whole class will go out to the hallways in the lounge-ish area that was located beside the classroom.
That's when Angela bumped into an awkward situation. She used video I recorded of her, Elizabeth, Yahaira and Kenneth dancing at "Dance School" to make an music file by looping a small section of the video as a wav file. Wav files are usually not audible in many music media players... so when we used the school computer to play her file, it didn't work. I decided to be her assistant and tried to use Youtube to play the video while she taught the dance to the class. When I got the Youtube video out, the school computer's speakers were not all good in terms of audio. We were going to have everyone dance to 8-counts until one of our classmates (David!) pulled out his laptop to play the video! His laptop speakers were amazing! They were able to project the music for everyone to hear it.
When I played the video so everyone can dance to it, everyone waited for the starting point of the song to start dancing. As everyone waited, my voice from the video came out screaming, "FAAAAAAIIILL." Oh that was a good laugh...
Most of everyone seemed to have had a good time! People were definitely ready to eat the presentations' foods after 20 minutes of Angela's presentation.
Mrs. Q recorded the video and posted it up on the Fall 2012 HIST 1301 Facebook page! Then I kind of downloaded the video... then uploaded on Youtube... unlisted.

I would say Angela did a great job with sticking to her presentation even after how everything seem to have went wrong.
My Other RenFest Visits
For the year of 2012-2013, I created two Living History Journals that consist blog entries about four different Renaissance Festival visits (one of which involved camping at RenFest). The other three visits can be found by clicking the buttons below:
